French national treasure-level artist and architectural master Moinard Bétaille (Bruno Moinard & Claire Bétaille) teamed up with top international space conceptual companies and high-end display cabinet customization companies to redesign and upgrade the Cartier boutique in Geneva. The breathtaking natural scenery of Switzerland, the millennia-old glaciers of the Alps, and the dazzling brilliance of Cartier jewelry provided endless design inspiration for the designers.
Located at 35 Rue du Rhône in Geneva's Lake Geneva valley, this building, with its highly expressive Art Nouveau aesthetic, quietly stands. Since 1969, the world's top jewelry brand Cartier has chosen to open a unique boutique here. Over the years, it has welcomed countless royal nobles, fashion celebrities, and wealthy politicians, becoming one of the largest and most important Cartier boutiques in Europe.
French top architect and Cartier's designated designer Moinard Bétaille and their team, together with top space design companies and high-end display cabinet customization companies, have finally presented a new space that combines tradition and modern elements to the world after months of meticulous work.
The Cartier boutique in Geneva is an elegant journey, bringing the brand's history to the present and even the future. The progressive passage between the classic luxury department of Cartier (providing collectible jewelry, watches, and rare vintage clothing) and the creatively conceived ice corridor perfectly complements Cartier's insightful vision.
The entrance of the boutique is covered by a crystal glass ice wall, as if stepping into a fairy-tale kingdom frozen for thousands of years. The irregular ceiling and wall panels blend seamlessly, like shuttling through glaciers, fierce yet unpredictable.
This is not only an entrance corridor but also an installation art space. The designers used over two tons of frosted glass to create a transparent and mysterious artwork, leading us into the dazzling world of Cartier jewelry.
The space art designer said: "This exquisite work pays tribute to the beauty of nature in Switzerland. Inspired by the sparkling frost beauty from the top of Swiss mountains, we used hand-made glass to create crystal-like textures, covering the walls and ceilings, allowing customers to instantly immerse themselves in the atmosphere of ice caves hidden deep in the mountains at Cartier boutiques."
Passing through the crystal-like corridor, what comes into view is the high-end boutique area of Cartier, where the use of high-end showcases highlights the luxury of jewelry. The warm brushed bronze reflects a warm halo, and Moinard Bétaille continues Cartier's consistent design style, pushing the "copper concept" to the extreme. This experience of extreme winter, stepping into a comfortable spa-like atmosphere, is an alternative expression of design language.
The designers invisibly cut the indoor space with several groups of different art chandeliers, and the circular display cabinets facilitate customers to observe jewelry at close range. The VIP customer rest area uses frosted glass as a partition, protecting privacy while allowing effective flow of space, inside and out.
The design of the art chandelier "Flow" is also inspired by the natural landscape of Switzerland, combining multiple surface materials and structures: soft water flow, ripples blown by the wind, and rounded pebbles on the shore, layer upon layer.
The men's wear area of the boutique focuses more on elegant and stable design tones. In the selection of lighting fixtures, it is simple and atmospheric, highlighting the rhythm. Mirrored brass and wood finishes outline the overall contour of the display racks, and orange velvet chairs burst out of the warm wood color visual range, adding a touch of jumping color to the space.
